The European Commission plans to conclude a service contract to support actions to address the physical and mental health needs of people living in isolated and vulnerable situations in the EU.
The overall population’s health has improved across the EU over recent decades, yet that improvement has not been experienced equally everywhere, or by all. Large health inequalities in the burden of chronic diseases exist both between and within EU Member States. Thus the Commission plans to conclude a service contract to support actions to address the physical and mental health needs of people living in isolated and vulnerable situations in the EU.
The subject of this contract SANTE/2014/C4/034 is to support the development of actions to address the health needs (both physical and mental) of people living in isolated and vulnerable situations in the EU by: assessing the situation, reviewing the current state of the art and collecting best practices; establishing a group of experts to exchange information and provide policy guidance; implementing capacity building and training activities; and disseminating project results. A particular focus will be on those living in more (geographically and socially) isolated communities (including the elderly and people with disabilities), identifying and highlighting differences for men’s and women’s health needs.
Capacity building and training activities for the development and implementation of actions must enable a wide participation of competent authorities and non-governmental bodies of EU Member States, representing different geographic, socio-economic and cultural settings.
