The European Commission has launched a public consultation on state aid for the deployment of high-speed communication networks.

The European Commission has launched a public consultation until January 5, 2021 inviting Member States and any other stakeholder to submit their views and comments on the existing European Union rules on state aid for public support for the deployment of broadband communication networks. A consultation has been launched with the aim of determining whether the existing rules under the 2013 State Aid Guidelines on Broadband can be adopted or need to be updated. Since the adoption of the 2013 guidelines, broadband technologies have improved considerably and user needs have increased, requiring higher bandwidth and network improvements for other parameters.
