Strengthening the EU-IMF partnership for sustainable development

To meet the challenges of sustainable development, the EU and the IMF have decided to increase their cooperation, resulting in the signing of a new framework agreement today.

Since 2016, the European Union is the IMF’s first partner for capacity development. The International Monetary Fund and the European Commission are long-standing partners both inside and outside the European Union.

The new agreement will promote, simplify and accelerate contractual arrangements for the many joint activities in support of good economic governance, sound public financial management, appropriate domestic revenue mobilization, institution building and, more broadly, the implementation of the sustainable development agenda up to 2030.
