Priorities and funded actions

Objectives

  • To increase the level of digital skills of the EU population
  • To improve the image, the visibility and attractiveness of semiconductors related studies and jobs with a holistic approach by industry and academia (Topic 1)
  • To boost the digital skills of young people (Topic 2)

Priorities

Topic 1 – Reinforcing skills in semiconductors

  • Priority 1: Higher Education Network
    • Sub-priority 1: To support the development of a European network of degreeawarding higher education institutions, businesses and other relevant institutions active in semiconductors
    • Sub-priority 2: To establish long-term sustainable partnerships among the members of the consortium able to sustain the activities envisaged by the call even after the project end and to award an increasing number of students with continuity over the years
  • Priority 2: Vocational Training Network
    • Sub-priority 1: To support the development of a network among business and Vocational and Educational Training (VET) providers and academia, aimed to address the need of new and continuing vocational training for workforce in semiconductors
    • Sub-priority 2: To establish long-term sustainable partnerships in given local contexts, able to sustain the activities envisaged by the call even after the project end and to deliver training on semiconductors with continuity over the years

Topic 2 – Boosting digital skills of young people in particular girls

  • Priority 1: To scale up the EU Code Week initiative to spread computational thinking and coding to as many people as possible, focusing particularly on young people, teachers and schools
  • Priority 2: To put a strong emphasis on boosting the digital skills of young people, particularly of girls, to encourage them to pursue studies in STEM disciplines and take up a career in ICT

Among financed actions

  • Communication campaigns
  • Events aimed at secondary school students
  • Training for secondary school teachers to highlight links between STEM disciplines and the semiconductors sector
  • To manage the network of volunteer EU Code Week ambassadors
  • Upskilling, training and empowering teachers as well as school leaders in the areas of coding, computational thinking, digital literacy and the wider field of digital education via a multitude of activity types, such as MOOCs, TeachDays, study groups, webinars, etc.
  • To introduce training activities for pre-school educators on how to introduce concepts including computational thinking and coding to pre-school children
  • To providing study guidance/information events targeted at pupils attendingsecondary schools, their parents as well as young people

Additional information

  • This call for proposals is an open call for proposals
  • Initial duration of the action: 48 months for Topic 1 – Reinforcing skills in semiconductors and 24 months for Topic 2 – Boosting digital skills of young people in particular girls

Eligibility

  • Be a legal entity (public or private body)
  • A consortium composed of :
    • Topic 1 – Reinforcing skills in semiconductors: at least 5 entities, established in at least 5 different EU Member States or associated countries to the programme must be constituted
    • Topic 2 – Boosting digital skills of young people in particular girls: at least 4 entities, established in at least 4 different EU Member States or associated countries to the programme must be constituted
Financement
  • Total budget of the call: 16 million euro
  • Total budget of the topic:
    • Topic 1 – Reinforcing skills in semiconductors: 10 million euro
    • Topic 2 – Boosting digital skills of young people in particular girls: 6 million euro
  • Amount of the grant:
    • Topic 1 – Reinforcing skills in semiconductors: 5 million euro
    • Topic 2 – Boosting digital skills of young people in particular girls:6 million euro
  • Co-financing rate:
    • Topic 1 – Reinforcing skills in semiconductors: up to 50% of the total eligible costs
    • Topic 2 – Boosting digital skills of young people in particular girls: up to 100% of the total eligible costs
