Priorities and funded actions

Objectives

  • To promote and protect human rights, fundamental freedoms, democracy, the rule of law and implementation of Agenda 2030 in China from a rights-based approach (especially SDG 16: promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development; provide access to justice for all; and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels)
  • To reduce inequality within and among countries (SDG 10) and empowering social, economic and political inclusion of all, irrespective of age, sex, disability, ethnicity, origin or economic status. Adopt social protection policies and progressively achieve greater equality
  • To achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls (SDG 5), and tolerance towards LGBT. Achieving women economic empowerment and equal participation in leadership, while reducing paternalistic stereotypes
  • To promote sustainable use of ecosystems, halt and reverse land degradation and biodiversity loss, and combat climate change (SDG 13 & 15). Use legal means, such as disclosure of public information, and use of public interest litigation, to achieve environmental rights and redress

Priorities

  • Priority 1 – Protecting and empowering individuals
  • Priority 2 – Support of human rights defenders and counter shrinking space for civil society and improve enabling environment for civil society
  • Priority 3 – Support gender equality and women empowerment, through public awareness building, capacitating civil society, gender mainstreaming, and policy advocacy
  • Priority 4 – Building resilient, inclusive and democratic societies, by strengthening democratic, accountable and transparent institutions (incl. courts and police) and promoting participatory processes and representative decision-making (incl. policy advocacy)

Among financed actions

  • Promote and strengthen the enabling environment for civil society, human rights defenders and human rights activists
  • Strengthen organizational capacities of civil society, including advocacy and public awareness, to effectively operate in support of human rights improvements
  • Strengthen capacities of civil society, including lobbying, advocacy and policy dialogue to improve standard procedures, regulations and legal reform
  • Increase engagement opportunities and participation of persons in vulnerable, disadvantaged and marginalized situations in decision-making processes. Protection of vulnerable groups & equality for all, ‘leaving no-one behind’

Additional information

  • This is a restricted call for proposals. In the first instance, only concept notes must be submitted for evaluation.
  • Initial duration of the project: between 24 and 36 months

Eligibility

  • Be a legal person
  • Be non-profit-making
  • Be a specific type of organisation such as: Civil Society Organisations, including non-governmental organisation, community-based organisations, private sector non-profit agencies, institutions and organisations, and networks thereof at local, national, regional and international level, public sector operator, local authority or
  • Be a public sector non-profit agencies, institutions and organisations and networks at local, national, regional, and international level
Financement
  • Total budget of the call: 1.110 million euro
  • Amount of the grant: between 370.000 and 555.000 euro
  • Co-financing rate: between 60% and 95% of the total eligible costs
