Priorities and funded actions

Objective

To support agri-food production in the Republic of Congo through the development of priority agri-food value chains anchored in sustainable methods and practices and based on improving their quality and competitiveness, economically integrating young people, women and vulnerable sections of the population in particular, as well as reducing the country’s dependence on food imports and contributing to the transition to a diversified and green economy.

Priorities

  • Priority 1: The capacities of family farms and their professional organizations are strengthened within priority agricultural value chains, so as to improve productivity and competitiveness, as well as an increase in agri-food production in line with market needs, thanks to more productive, sustainable production methods that are adapted to climate change
  • Priority 2: Artisanal and small-scale processing and marketing capacities are strengthened within priority agri-food value chains, helping to increase the production and supply of high-quality agri-food products of national origin, with high nutritional value, in line with market needs, notably through the use of more efficient and sustainable processing and packaging techniques
  • Priority 3: The organization of priority value chains is supported, developed and strengthened with the aim of achieving greater efficiency, synergies in joint projects and a more equitable distribution of revenues by type of player

Among financed actions

  • Support and training for economic players at different levels of the selected agri-food value chains, based on a process of identifying specific intervention areas and beneficiaries, enabling market demand, greater competitiveness and compliance with quality and hygiene standards, leading to the creation of decent jobs, particularly for women and young people
  • Promotion of sustainable production, processing and marketing methods based on an integrated farm-to-fork agri-food system approach, including “climate-smart”, zero-deforestation production and methods with an agro-ecological agroecological approach, promoting the use of renewable energies as well as waste and wastewater treatment, creating sustainable livelihoods, and reducing pressure on ecosystems, in particular forests
