Priorities and funded actions

Objectives

  • The promotion and protection of: human rights and fundamental freedoms; democracy; and the rule of law in Somalia
  • To support civil society organisations to contribute to the promotion and protection of human rights, foster freedom of expression and enhance peacebuilding, conflict prevention and social cohesion, through arts, culture and sports

Priorities

  • Priority 1 – Protecting and empowering communities through cultural, artistic and sporting
    initiatives
  • Priority 2 – Promoting the principles of living together and the common public space, including freedom of expression and democratic debate

Among financed actions

  • Actions that support the promotion of freedom of expression, democratic debate and the cultivation of diverse perspectives, in particular among young people
  • Creation of opportunities and/or safe spaces for constructive consultations, dialogue and reconciliation initiatives between citizens, communities, and their leaders in conflict-prone areas
  • Promoting peace and reconciliation initiatives and messages through cultural and artistic lenses in schools, communities and the media, including social media platforms
  • Actions that favour participatory community approaches and joint creative work around freedom of expression and cultural diversity, also valorising tangible and intangible cultural heritage
  • Targeted and co-ordinated use of sports to enhance community cohesion and trustbuilding among vulnerable communities, including in schools and spaces attended by youth
  • Co-ordinated use of sports to address specific social challenges identified in particular communities, such as violence against women and girls, drug use, criminality, school drop-out or other researched predictors of inclination towards violence/VE
  • Pilot school initiatives to particularly encourage girls’ participation in sports

Additional information

  • This is a restricted call for proposals. In the first instance, only concept notes must be submitted for evaluation.
  • Initial duration of the action: between 36 and 48 months

Eligibility

  • Be a legal person
  • Be non-profit-making
  • Be a civil society organization or an association of civil society organizations
  • Be directly responsible for the preparation and management of the action with the coapplicant(s) and affiliated entity(ies), not acting as an intermediary
Financement
  • Total budget of the call: 1.6 million euro
  • Amount of the grant: between 500.000 and 600.000 euro
  • Co-financing rate: between 50% and 95% of the total eligible costs
