Priorities and funded actions

Objectives

  • To contribute to the strengthening of an inclusive environment conducive to freedom of expression, access to information and media independence in Tunisia (Lot 1)
  • To strengthen the capacity of the media and journalists in Tunisia to provide and put into perspective verified, relevant and quality information that contributes to enrich the public debate on socio-economic issues (Lot 2)
  • Encourage citizens to engage in constructive debate to increase pressure for greater accountability of public actors (Lot 1 and 2)

Priorities

  • Priority 1: Strengthening the capacity of media actors and media civil society to inform the debate on socio-economic issues
  • Priority 2: Strengthening media and civil society actors to actively participate in the promotion and empowerment of Tunisian women
  • Priority 3: Increased cooperation between the media and civil society organisations to ensure that diverse voices are heard in the public discourse on reform programmes
  • Priority 4: Better access to international and Tunisian expertise to support and mentor the development of new content formats

Among the financed actions 

  • Projects focusing on the development, production and dissemination of general interest and verified content by online platforms, TV channels and radio stations, in particular those targeting audiences in disadvantaged regions
  • Projects supporting the development and launch of new media platforms that present a wide range of verified and relevant information on socio-economic issues and that benefit from linked social media channels
  • Creation of networks between several media and/or civil society actors that have the potential to lead advocacy efforts and share best practices across Tunisia
  • Capacity building or awareness raising efforts for media associations or representative organisations and journalists seeking to build alliances or facilitate content sharing between media
  • Supporting media initiatives aimed at significantly increasing the accountability of institutional and/or political and/or socio-economic actors

Additional information

  • This is a restricted call for proposals. In the first instance, only concept notes will be evaluated.
  • Initial duration of the action: between 24 and 48 months

Eligibility

  • Be a legal person and not for profit
  • Belong to one of the following categories of organisations: non-governmental organisation, public sector operator active in the media field
  • Be established in Tunisia, in a Member State of the European Union or in any eligible country as indicated in the ENI Basic Act
Financement
  • Total amount of the call:
    • Lot 1: EUR 1 million
    • Lot 2: EUR 3 million
  • Amount of the grant :
    • Lot 1: between 750.000 and 1 million euro
    • Lot 2: between EUR 1 and 1.5 million euro
  • Co-financing rate: between 50% and 90% of the total eligible costs of the action
