Priorities and funded actions

Objectives

  • To support the development of a system for the automated measuring of tail length and tail lesions of pigs at the slaughter line

Priorities

  • Priority 1: to assess the risk of tail biting in the holding
  • Priority 2: to take any necessary measures to mitigate the identified risks in terms of applying changes in the environmental conditions and management practices
  • Priority 3: to make trials to raise batches of intact pigs under the altered husbandry conditions
  • Priority 4: to monitor the situation by recording tail lesions in the intact batches, with the aim to assess the effectiveness of the measures taken in mitigating the tail biting risks

Among financed actions

  • Software to connect the system to the ICT system of the participating slaughterhouses
  • Development, calibration and testing of an automated system based on the analysis of camera footage in slaughterhouses

Additional informations

  • This call of proposals is a restricted call of proposals. In first instance, only concept notes will be evaluated
  • Initial duration of the action: 24 months

Eligibility

  • Be legal entities (public or private bodies)
  • Be established in EU Member States
  • Set up a consortium formed by at least three applicants with minimum three entities from at least three out of the five following countries: Spain, Germany, Denmark, Netherlands and Poland.
  • Activities must taking place in at least three out of the five countries named above
  • The participation of a range of business operators and academic/research institutions is mandatory
Financement
  • Total budget of the topic: 1.5 million euro
  • Amount of the grant: up 1.5 to million euro
  • Co-financing rate: up to 65% of the eligible costs
