Ukraine: proposal for a cohesion action to help refugees fleeing Ukraine after the Russian invasion

On 8 March 2022, the European Commission adopted a proposal for a Cohesion Action for Refugees in Europe (CARE) which allows Member States and regions to provide emergency assistance to people fleeing Ukraine.

The CARE proposal aims to help Member States provide emergency assistance for the basic needs of people fleeing Ukraine after the Russian invasion. These needs include, for example, access to temporary accommodation, food and water supplies, or medical care.

Member States can also use this funding to put in place tailor-made solutions aimed at the long-term integration of people in an immigration situation, by investing in housing, education, employment, health, social inclusion or care.

Cohesion policy support will complement the support of the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMI) and other sources of funding.
