Horizon 2020 is a programme that provides grants for projects of Research and Innovation to establish an economy based on knowledge and innovation. 

The agreement associating Georgia to Horizon 2020 signed on 29th April will allow Georgian researchers and innovators to participate in Horizon 2020 under the same conditions as their counterparts from EU Members States. Until now, Georgia participated in Horizon 2020 as a third country. So this agreement will enhance the cooperation betwen Georgia and the EU in the fields of research and innovation. It will open up new opportunities for Georgian universities, research institutions and enterprises.
Already in the Seventh framework programme, that is to say from 2007 to 2013, Georgian organisations had participated in 49 signed projects.
