Every year, the Commission chooses the best projects contributing to the intelligent, inclusive and sustainable growth. According to the institution, the Regiostars prize aims at identifying the best practices in the field regional development that could inspire other European regions enabling those to spread over the continent. This year, the Commission recorded a high number of candidates; receiving 149 applications. Today, 27 projects are among the finalists.

The candidates compete in five different categories: intelligent (1), sustainable (2) or inclusive (3) growth, Citystar (4) - rewarding integrated approaches to sustainable urban development-, and finally the Information and Communication category (5). As a result, varied types of projects aiming at reinforcing the sustainable regional development have all the odds at their side to be rewarded at the European level.

All the participating projects are evaluated on the same specific criteria, such as its innovative nature, that is the red line of the current European Policies according to Europe2020 strategy, as well as its expected sustainability. Within the following weeks, the European Commission will reveal the winning projects and we will discover the most inspiring best practices that have been implemented.

The Application Process the 2014 Regiostars Awards is already open. The applications should be sent by the 19th of April 2013 for the DG REGIO of the European Commission. Don’t hesitate to take your chance and let your project shine!
