Launch of the first calls for proposals under the new Creative Europe programme in the fall of 2013

Although negotiations on the future multiannual financial framework for the period 2014-2020 is still ongoing at the Parliament and the Council, the Relais Culture Europe has announced that the first calls for proposals under the Creative Europe programme for the next programming period are in preparation and will be launched during the fall.

The Creative Europe programme

The new Creative Europe programme is the new program dedicated to the sectors of culture and creativity. It replaces the Culture, Media and the Media Mundus 2007-2013 programmes and aims at financing projects that foster the safeguarding and promotion of European cultural and linguistic diversity and strengthen the competitiveness of the culture and creative sectors.

The new program will have a total budget of € 1.801 billion.

It will be organized in three parts:
The Culture strand, with a budget of 500 million euro (e.g. 30% of the global budget): it will aim to raise awareness on the richness and diversity of European cultures and to foster intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding, particularly through European prizes in the field of culture, the European heritage label and the European Capitals ofCulture
The MEDIA strand, with a budget of 900 million euro (e.g. 55% of the global budget): it will aim to facilitate circulation of European films worldwide and of international films in Europe on all platforms, initiatives presenting and promoting a diversity of European audiovisual works
A cross-sectoral strand, with a budget of 270 million euro (e.g. 15% of the global budget): it will aim to stimulate cross-border cooperation between professionals, institutions platforms and networks in the cultural and creative sectors

The next steps

Rapporteurs of the European Parliament are working with the Commission on the preparation of the future programme guide. It should be available during the summer. This document will be the reference for the launch of calls for proposals and will therefore constitute an essential source of information for project managers.

It is important to note that this schedule is indicative as the 2014-2020 Budget has not yet been voted.
