FALSE - The European Union is one of the most active powers in that regard. The Climate and Energy Package adopted in 2008 sets ambitious goals in this area by 2020. These objectives are obviously taken into account in the LIFE 2014-2020 programme, with an overall budget of 3,45 billion euros, which is clearly dedicated to this field. But they are also visible as a cross-cutting issue in other EU programmes such as Horizon 2020 and particularly the section “Societal Challenges – Secure, clean and efficient energy" with an annual budget of 640 million euros, or more recently through the European Fund for Strategic Investments, since part of the funding will be allocated to investments in energy efficiency as well as renewable energy.
