The European Commission reveals the 2012 RegioStars winners

News Yesterday, the European Commission held the award ceremony of the RegioStars annual competition. The Commissioner for Regional Policy, Johannes Hahn was in charge of awarding the prices to the five winners. Indeed, the winning projects, submitted respectively by Sweden, Poland, Austria, and by two transnational partnerships have distinguished themselves thanks to their being particularly innovative and their stimulating good practices in regional development.


All EU regions were invited to submit projects that received funding from the European Development Fund (ERDF) and Cohesion Fund after January 1st 2000. For the fifth edition of this award, the European Commission received a record-breaking number of 107 submissions, 24 of which were shortlisted to the finalists list.

The winners of the five categories of RegioStars 2012 are:

Category 1: Smart Growth - Eco World Styria

Category 2: Sustainable Growth - Grabs ("Green and Blue Space Adaptation for Urban Areas and Eco-towns") - European Territorial Cooperation (ETC)

Category 3: Inclusive growth - "Older people for Older people" (O4O) - ETC

Category 4: Citystars - SOM "South East Malmö»

Category 5: Information and communication -

Regional Operational Programme for 2007-2013 Podlasie Voivodeship
