Germany is committed to insect protection

News The Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), created by the 1957 Treaty of Rome, is a policy for the development of agriculture in the European Union. It is financed by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) and the European Agricultural Guarantee Fund (EAGF).

In October 2018, the German Ministry of Environment approved the key points of an “action plan for insect protection,” which is currently under consultation. The final draft will be adopted in April. Several issues will be addressed in the Ministry's action plan, among which, is the restriction of fertilisers.

The CAP, which adopts environmental mesures, provides €6.2 billion a year to German farmers. These include, on the one hand, direct payments and, on the other, money through co-funding by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
