News Next 20 and 21 April, the Informal Meeting of EU Sports Ministers will take place in the Palacio Municipal de Congresos (Municipal Conference Centre) in Madrid, and will focus on sports ministers' new competencies after the specific inclusion of sport in the Treaty of Lisbon.

In this sense, the Spanish initiative to structure and strengthen dialogue between the sporting movement and the EU-27 governments will be one of the highlights. The meeting will also deal with other issues such as creating a new EU working group on Social Inclusion and Equality, updating health and sports matters and doping issues. Parallel to the Informal Meeting of Ministers, a Sport Forum will be held on 19 and 20 April. This is the maximum meeting forum for the sporting movement as it will attended by the IOC and International Federations, as well as representatives from all sports organisation organisms and associations of sportsmen and women, clubs and professional leagues. The authorities and experts that make up the Forum will deal with aspects of cooperation on an EU level, Commission initiatives related to values and the social function of sport. The informal meeting as well as the forum are held in the framework of the Spanish Presidency and, for the first time, there will be a meeting between all the organisations that form the sport movement and the Sports Ministers of the member state governments.
