LEILAC: a European initiative for lower CO2 emissions cement manufacturing

Research, Environment, Industry, Innovation,-,

News The cement industry is responsible for 6 to 8% of global CO2 emissions. This pollution is mainly the result of the raw materials needed to manufacture cement. LEILAC, an innovative Horizon 2020 project, allows factories to capture 5% of the CO2 produced before it is released into the atmosphere.

This technology requires only minimal changes to the plant's conventional production line. It allows CO2 capture without the use of additional chemicals.

The team is now working to develop the technology on a larger scale to capture 95% of the total CO2 emissions produced by the cement plant while seeking to develop other circular economy models.
