New training programme for Croatian prosecutors launched

News The project ‘Education and Training of Prosecutors' is financed by the European Union in the framework of the CARDS 2003 programme

This project represents the second phase of the European Commission’s support to the training of judiciary in Croatia. It is worth 1 million euro, started in January 2006 and will last until September 2007. It consists of 0.8 million euro worth twinning component and 0.2 million worth supply component. The twinning part is aimed at reinforcing the institutional capacity of the Judicial Academy, as the only relevant institution for training of judicial staff in Croatia. It will enable Croatian judicial staff to deal with new legal substance with respect to the country’s accession to the EU. The twining project will be implemented by the International Legal Cooperation Agency, the French National School for Magistrates by and the Spanish Centre for Judicial Studies. The final result of the project should be the establishment of a group of qualified prosecutors who will then act as trainers at the Judicial Academy and ensure a self-sustainable training system. The project will also ensure the methods for designing and producing future training programmes for prosecutors. The supply component will provide IT equipment, documentation and furniture to the Judicial Academy Regional Centres in Split and Osijek as well as to the Office of the Public Prosecutor in Zagreb. The main beneficiary of the project is the Judicial Academy, as the focal point for education of staff employed in judiciary together with its network of five Regional Training Centres (in Zagreb, Rijeka, Split, Osijek and Vara
