The European Commission awarded the Access City Award to the French city of Lyon on the occasion of the European Day of People with Disabilities. In this respect, it gratifies Lyon for its inclusive and universal accessibility.
In Lyon, public buses are 100% accessible and access to culture for all is also guaranteed by means of accessible library equipment, such as reading lights, audiobooks, video magnifiers and screens.
The city has also developed digital tools for people with disabilities. Moreover, with regard to integration, 7.8% of civil servants are disabled persons, a proportion well above the minimum legal quota of 6% required by French legislation.
The European regional development fund (ERDF) also aims to promote sustainable transport and remove obstacles in critical network infrastructure as well as employment and support for labor mobility.
