A compromise agreement has been reached by the European Parliament’s Industry Committee to set the EU’s renewable share at 35% by 2030.
The intention of the parliamentary committee to support a target of 35% for renewables by 2030 has been welcomed by major groups in Parliament. Greens, less enthusiastic, called the target a “bare minimum” for the EU to meet its commitments under the Paris Agreement.
For them, renewables should represent at least 38-40% of the energy mix so that global warming does not exceed the 2 ° C limit adopted in 2015 at COP21.
The EU supports the improvement of the quality of the environment, the reversal of the process of loss of biodiversity, and the fight against ecosystem degradation through the Life program.
