Under the Junker Plan, the European Union will finance the broadband infrastructure with at least 1 billion euro over 5 years.
The EU and the European Investment Bank (EIB), with the Caisse des Dépôts, Cassa dei Depositi and KfW, pooled the first 420 million euro for the Connecting Europe Broadband Fund in order to finance broadband network infrastructure especially for undeserved areas across Europe. The fund aims at mobilising at least 1 billion euro in investment over five years.
This is one of the targets set for 2025 which seek to bring better broadband connectivity into rural areas and ensure that everyone in the EU has the best possible internet connection. The Connecting Europe Broadband Fund is the first investment platform to support broadband infrastructure under the European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI).
