World EXPO 2015

April 3, 2015

The World EXPO 2015 will take place in Milan from 1 May to 30 October 2015 with the theme “Feeding the Planet: Energy for Life”. Some 20 million visitors are expected to attend the event. Following its successful participation in the World EXPO Shanghai in 2010, the EU will participate this year in Milan with its own pavilion. The European Union sees the EXPO as an opportunity to demonstrate EU achievements on food sustainability over the last 50 years and to discuss the principle challenges in the short-term and long-term up to 2050. Technology and innovation will play a vital role.
Since energy is seen as an indispensable element to the sustainability of the food sector, DG Energy will host two conferences on the EU pavilion. The first event will be a conference on the “Sustainable Production and use of Energy in the Food Sector” on 26 June. The second event is a conference on “Smart Energy Systems in the Food Sector” on 16 October.
At both events there will be a focus on best practice, innovative and sustainable solutions for sustainable production, and the use of energy in the food sector.
