Hat: The financing of the Union for Space Programs
The European budget must ensure strong ambitions for space programs in order to compete with other world powers.
On November 10, the Parliament, the Council and the European Commission approved plans establishing the EU Space Programme for the period 2021-2027 and the European Union Space Programme Agency. The Parliament will vote on the €14.8 billion space program in March 2021. It brings together all space-related activities and covers the Galileo, Copernicus and Space Situational Awareness (SSA) programs.
Space technology is indispensable for many important services on which Europeans depend. It can also play a crucial role in effectively addressing challenges such as climate change, border controls and helping to ensure the security of people living in the EU. However, no single EU country has the capacity to do this alone.
