20 million euro from the ERDF to improve the competitiveness of SMEs in Finland

Hat: The "SME initiative" Program for Finland was adopted by the European Commission on 24 January 2017. The program has a budget of 40 million euro, of which 20 million euro comes from the ERDF and 20 million euro from the European Finnish national budget.

After Spain, Malta, Italy, Bulgaria and Romania, Finland is the sixth Member State to adopt the “SME initiative”. The initiative will allow start-ups and SMEs to have easier access to finance.

The programme will provide guarantees to financial intermediaries that give loans to SMEs. Thanks to the leverage effect, the guarantees are expected to unlock over 360 million euro of fresh loans for Finnish businesses.
