Hat: Approval of the first European programme for the defence industry
Funding Scheme: 2018-02-21
Pgm2014 2020: Yes
The new European Defence Industrial Development Programme, with a budget of 500 million euro for 2019-2020, was approved today by the European Parliament’s Industry and Research Committee. The proposal for a regulation establishing this programme was published on 7 June 2017 by the European Commission, and it is still to be adopted under the ordinary legislative procedure.
The purpose of this programme is to build the defense capabilities of the Member States by pooling their resources.
Financed actions should focus on the development phase (between research and production) of new and improved defence products and technologies.
Financial support should cover all costs for all projects, except for prototypes, where a ceiling of 20% is set.
Finally, it should be noted that the actions will have to be carried out by at least three public or private companies established in at least three different EU Member States.
