This CAP reform is intended to take better account of environmental and climate challenges. It is now to be discussed with the European Parliament.

At the end of long hours of negotiations, the agriculture ministers of the European Union (EU) agreed on Wednesday 21 October on a reform of the new Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) designed to take better account of environmental and climate challenges.

The guidelines adopted by the member states are now to be discussed with the European Parliament for entry into force from January 2023. The European Commissioner for Agriculture, Janusz Wojciechowski, described the ministers’ agreement as a good starting point for these negotiations, believing that a good compromise could now be found.
