Horizon Europe Work Programme 2023-2024 adopted

On 6 December, the European Commission approved the Work Programme for Horizon Europe for the period 2023-2024. In total, 13.5 billion euros are earmarked for research and innovation.

The Work Programme 2023-2024 is based on the Horizon Europe Strategic Plan 2021-2024, and was adopted following an extensive 12-week public consultation.

It is integrated more broadly into the 95.5 billion euro Horizon Europe programme for the period 2021-2027. It serves to help researchers and innovators in Europe find innovative solutions to environmental, energy, digital and geopolitical challenges.

Among the 13.5 billion euro for the period 2023-2024, the following themes receive:

  • 5.67 billion is dedicated to reaching key climate action objectives, finding innovative solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapting to climate change
  • 1.67 billion contributes to supporting biodiversity
  • 4.5 billion will support the EU digital transition
  • 970 million will be invested to help speed up the clean energy transition and increase Europe’s energy independence
  • 1 billion for NewtGenerationEU
  • 336 million to enhance pandemic preparedness and to respond to health emergencies
  • 600 million will be invested in the five EU Missions

The calls for projects were published on the Funding and Tenders website on 7 December.
