The EU announces its support to the most vulnerable third countries around the world to cope with the epidemic. 15 billion euros will be guaranteed for many countries in Africa, the Balkans and Latin America. This support is intended to limit the health, economic and social consequences and comes from reserves of the European Development Fund (EDF) and guarantees given by the European Fund for Sustainable Development (EFF).
The EU will guarantee more than €15 billion to help the most vulnerable countries in Africa and the rest of the world to fight the pandemic, announced the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, on 7 April 2020.
The financial support proposed is 15.6 billion euros, a European source told AFP. It is made up of unspent funds, redirected to fight Covid-19, reserves from the European Development Fund (EDF) and guarantees given by the European Fund for Sustainable Development, according to this source.
