The ecological transition of 108 European regions will be financed by this pact, including the two French regions as recommended by the Commission.

Within the framework of the European Green Pact, the European Commission wants to create a fund for a “just transition”, i.e. to encourage ecological transition without increasing territorial inequalities. It would be endowed with 7.5 billion euros for the period 2021-2027.

Each year, the European Commission analyses the socio-economic situation of the Member States and makes recommendations, within the framework of the “European Semester”. This year, for the first time, it includes the energy transition. It even takes the opportunity to identify the European regions most deserving of receiving European incentive funds.
