EU Bodies and Agencies (EUBA) – Survey preparation in the EU: Pest survey cards for 12 regulated pests- 2025

Objectives

• To develop pest survey cards to support EU Member States in preparing pest surveys for 12 regulated pests
• To select a partner organisation to support EFSA in this task, helping Member States plan
• To prepare robust surveys of regulated pests in line with EU regulation
• To characterise the pests, their host plants, and detect and identificate methods

Priorities

• Priority 1: To support EFSA’s Plant Health Monitoring team mission related to pest surveillance
• Priority 2: To assist Member States scientifically and technically with plant pest surveys
• Priority 3: To prepare pest survey cards for EU quarantine, protected zone, and provisional quarantine pests

Among financed actions

• Performing literature searches, collecting and reviewing relevant information for survey preparation (characterising taxon, vectors, host plants, detection methods)
• Information on taxonomy, EU regulatory status, life cycle, distribution, host range, environmental suitability, spread capacity, risk factors, field detection, and lab identification
• Grouping the pests according to affected hosts or other ecology characteristics
• Drafting the survey cards following the EFSA template

Eligibility

• Applicants must be on the list of competent organisations designated by the Member States in accordance with Article 36 of Regulation (EC) 178/2002 and Commission Regulation (EC) 2230/2004 (Click here)
• A consortium composed of at least 1 entities, established in at least 1 different EU Member States or associated countries to the programme must be constituted
