European Parliament has arrived in Glasgow to push for higher ambitions at COP26

The official European Parliament delegation arrives today at the COP26, the UN Climate Change Conference, taking place in Glasgow this week. The MEPs aspire to call the world for higher climate objectives to respond to the climate emergency.

The Chair of the delegation, Pascal Canfin, declared that the current 2.7 degree trajectory is not ambitious enough. The MEPs aim to urge the countries to prevent a dramatic climate catastrophe by working together. He states that Europe should lead by example to reshape globalization in a climate consistent way, leveraging on existing tools.

The European Parliament has declared a climate emergency on 29 November 2019, and it has been pushing recently for more ambitious EU legislation on this matter. The European Union  has already reduced its emissions by 25% since 1990 but, reportedly, the world has to drastically increase its efforts.
