The EU prepares to intervene in the energy market to control the rise of prices

The interruption of the Nord Stream pipeline by Russia caused important soaring prices. In reponse of the inflation risk that could impact all businesses and consumers, the EU prepares to intervene in the energy market.

The Czech presidency of the Council of the EU consulted the 27 Member States, asking which market control measures they could take. Those measures will be presented at the Friday’s Energy Council in presence of all EU’s energy ministers this Friday.

Commission President Ursula von der Leyen wants to split all the proposals in two packages: one for immediate interventions and a second for long-term reforms.

Despite of some disagreements, the 27 Member States have to find an answer to the energy problem.
