Priorities and funded actions

Objectives

  • Increasing the use of pre-reduced iron carriers to reduce CO2 neutral iron ore
  • Developing technologies to reduce the specific energy required to produce steel
  • Circular economy and sector coupling solutions to meet the zero waste goal for steelmaking
  • Prepararing steel CO/CO2 gases for Carbon Capture Use and Storage (CCUS)
  • Process Integration (PI) in steel plants to reduce the use of fossil carbon and associated CO2 emissions

Among financed actions

  • RFCS Pilot and Demonstration Projects targeting the construction, operation and development of (significant parts of) installations on an appropriate scale and using suitably large components in order to examine the potential for putting theoretical or laboratory results into practice and/or increasing the reliability of the technical and economic data needed to progress to demonstration stage, and in certain cases to industrial and/or commercial stage

  • This call is an open call for proposals
  • Initial duration of the action: between 36 and 54 months

Eligibility

  • Be legal entities which carry out an R&D activity or substantially contribute to such an activity
  • Be established in one of the eligible countries
Financement
  • Total budget of the call: 130.188.777 million euro
  • Amount of the grant: between 5 and 9 million euro
  • Co-financing rate: up to 50% of the total eligible costs
