The Creative Europe programme has a budget allocation of €1.46 billion for the period 2014-2020. Creative Europe brings together under the same programme the Culture and Media strands with the aim of promoting European cultural diversity and heritage and strengthening the competitiveness of the cultural and creative sectors.
At the 72nd edition of the Cannes Film Festival, which ended on 25 May, three films supported by the European Europe Creative – MEDIA programme were awarded prizes. In addition to the three prizes, 20 films, also supported by the programme, were screened in the various selections of the festival. The MEDIA sub-programme has disbursed a total amount of €1.5 million for their development and distribution.
This is an incentive for EU investment. In March 2019, MEPs voted in favor of a proposal to double the budget of the Europe Creative programme for the period 2021-2027.
