On July 6th 2022, the European Parliament voted in favor of awarding the green investment label to nuclear and gas projects.
To reject the plan, a minimum of 353 votes was needed, but the motion opposing it was rejected by 328 votes to 278.
Now, to become law, the proposal must also be submitted to the vote of the Council of Ministers of the Union. The rejection is highly unlikely since a majority of 20 countries is needed to veto.
Luxembourg’s energy minister said on Twitter that he would challenge the decision before the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU): “Luxembourg and Denmark will file a complaint and the Court will rule on its legality.
