International Women’s Day: EU fights for gender equality

Calls for proposals supporting gender equality and women’s welfare are usually available under the Rights, Equality and Citizenship Programme (REC) as well as the Justice Programme.

The European Commission recently appointed Mrs Veronica Gaffey as Chair of its Regulatory Scrutiny Board. The Commission current objective in the fight towards gender equality is to reach at least 40% of women on middle and senior management positions by November 2019. Women currently represent 39.6% of all managers in the Commission, making the latter well on track towards the achievement of its objective.

On this particular International Women’s Day, it should be reminded that the EU works towards gender equality across the world. Among the priorities of the EU’s strategic engagement for gender equality, are the reduction of salary gap, the increase of female labor market participation, and the promotion of women’s rights worldwide.
