Towards a budget reduction for the 2021-2027 Justice Programme?

The EU Justice Programme contributes to uphold and promote the Union’s common values and to create an area of freedom, security and justice.

In view of the next long-term EU budget 2021-2027, the European Parliament and the Council reached a provisional agreement to support the justice area. A budget of 305 million euro will be available to fund activities which will support judges and prosecutors, promote the use of technology and improve the trust of citizens in their justice systems and foster trust between Member States.

Currently, under the 2014-2021 budget, an envelope of 378 million euro is dedicated for the Justice programme, that is, 73 million euro more compared to the budget announced in the provisional agreement for the 2021-2027 Justice programme. The Justice program will therefore be reduced for the next long-term budget.
