Priorities and funded actions

Objectives

  • To aim smart and outcome-based implementation of EU nature and biodiversity legislation and strategy
  • To improve the condition of wild flora, fauna, and habitats through area-based conservation/restoration (“Space for Nature”) or other relevant activities (“Safeguarding our species”)
  • To cover behavioural change, awareness-raising, compliance assurance, and access to justice related to nature and biodiversity legislation

Priorities

  • Priority 1: To conserve status/risk categories for species and habitats covered by EU legislation or red lists
  • Priority 2: To protecte areas network, restore targets, restore degraded/carbon-rich ecosystems, improve forests, reversing pollinator decline, nature in agricultural/urban areas, and marine/freshwater restoration
  • Priority 3: To address invasive alien species
  • Priority 4: To improve awareness of nature conservation benefits, especially the Natura 2000 network

Among financed actions

  • Area-based conservation/restoration measures and activities to improve species condition (e.g., infrastructure, awareness)
  • Awareness-raising campaigns
  • Promotion of good practices, training, establishing networks
  • Development of strategies/tools, engaging citizens, using environmental law
  • Develop/demonstrate innovative techniques
  • Contribute to knowledge/best practices
  • Activities supporting EU policy implementation, and catalysing solutions

Eligibility

  • Be a legal person
  • Be a public or private entity
  • Be established in one of the eligible countries:
    • EU Member States (including overseas countries and territories)
    • Non-EU states: listed EEA countries and countries associated to the LIFE Programme (Click here)
  • The coordinator must be established in an eligible country
  • A consortium is not required. An application can be submitted by a single entity established in an eligible country

  • Funding rate: up to 60% of the total eligible costs. A higher rate of 75% is possible for projects exclusively targeting priority habitats/species as defined in the document
