  • Actions must take place in Sri Lanka and/or in Maldives. Actions covering both countries are encouraged.

Priorities and funded actions

Objectives

  • To protect and empower human rights defenders and preserve the civic space
  • To build resilient, inclusive and democratic societies, with a particular focus on: (a) enhancing electoral integrity and democratic institutions; (b) promoting political pluralism and inclusiveness, as well as active citizenship

Priorities

  • Priority 1: Protection and capacity building specifically for human rights defenders and preservation of the overall civic space for civil society organizations to be able to operate freely
  • Priority 2: Strengthen democratic, transparent and accountable institutions with a focus on electoral integrity, as well as on the effectiveness, accountability and transparency of Parliaments
  • Priority 3: Enhance political pluralism and inclusiveness as well as active citizenship, with a particular focus on youth and women’s participation in public and political life

Among financed actions

  • Advocacy, lobbying and development of strategies by CSOs to push for legal reform, influence policy-making, or counter restrictions imposed by States on CSOs and other non-state actors
  • Providing psychosocial, medical, and legal assistance and any other type of support
  • Training of human-rights defenders and CSOs active in Human Rights and Democracy

  • This call for proposals is an open call for proposals
  • Initial duration of the action: between 24 and 36 months

Eligibility

  • Be a legal person
  • Be a non-profit-making entity
  • Be a CSO
  • Be directly responsible for the preparation and management of the action with the co-applicant(s) and affiliated entity(ies), not acting as an intermediary
Financement
  • Amount of the grant: between 400,000 and 500,000 euro
  • Co-financing rate: between 70 and 95% of the total eligible costs
