Culture seen as a driver of health and well-being by the Commission and the Parliament

The European Union has already funded projects linking culture, health and well-being, but the Covid-19 crisis has raised awareness of the strategic importance of these issues.

On 16 November, the Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, Mariya Gabriel and the Chair of the European Parliament’s Committee on Culture and Education, Sabine Verheyen , organised a seminar on the role of culture in health and well-being.

The Commission has also published a brochure entitled “Culture: a driver for health and well-being in the EU”. It contains examples of good practice, but also of projects funded by the various European programmes, such as Creative Europe, Erasmus + or Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe.

Voices of Culture, a structured dialogue between representatives of the cultural sector and the European Commission, will publish a report on the role that the cultural and creative sector has on the mental health of young people.
