According to a recent Eurobarometer study, 45% of Europeans are not physically active and never practice sport. The study also shows that Covid-19 has led to a reduction or even a total cessation of sport for almost half of Europeans. To counter this, the European Commission has launched a two-year campaign in 2021: HealthyLifeStyle4All.
The Commission regularly organises Eurobarometers on sport, most recently in 2013 and 2017, to monitor trends in sport and physical activity. The responses help to inform and guide the European Commission’s various policies and actions.
The Commission’s HealthyLifestyle4All campaign aims to link sport and active lifestyles to health, nutrition and other policies. It aims to raise awareness of the importance of a healthy and active lifestyle among different social groups and generations.
In addition, each year the Commission organises the European Week of Sport, which is part of the #BeActive campaign, which focuses on inspiring people and this year’s themes are youth, inclusion and equality, and healthy lifestyles.
